HOW TO OPEN UP AND BE VOCAL IN A GROUP SETTING

When asked in some studies what people feared most, it wasn’t dying, it was speaking in a group. Not surprisingly, people find speaking in a group very intimidating and somewhat scary. They are self conscious and nervous.
First, no matter what situation you have to speak in a group, at work, socially or in a meeting of people you choose to be with, practice speaking. Speak in front of a mirror. You will realize you don’t look any worse than anyone else. Practice keeping a flow of words coming out. Read from a book so you can continue speaking without needing to pause.
If you need to give a speech or presentation at work, you will be allowed to look at notes while doing so. This really saves time, anyway. You will not have to memorize verbatim everything you wish to say.
If you are speaking in a meeting of people where you were not prepared to speak, but wish to contribute, think before you speak of what you want to say for a minute. Then, just do it. The worst that will happen is that you falter a little. This does happen to everyone until you get used to it.
